The Weekend Starts Today in Greater Los Angeles

Here’s a reminder from “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight”–You don’t have to wait until Friday to get the weekend started.  Here are some special musical and entertainment events around Southern California that start tonight and run well into the weekend:

WEDNESDAY, AUG 1 

Doug Briney is an Alaskan country western singer and guitarist who grew up in Southern California.  He’ll be playing live on state at Ruby’s in the City of Orange in Orange County tonight.

Marina V. begins a 4-week engagement at Witzend in Venice. This Moscow-born singer songwriter will appear live onstage, playing some of the music from her upcoming CD, “Inner Superhero.”

THURSDAY, AUG. 2

Malibu Unplugged  presents live music from up-and-coming artists every Thursday evening.  Producer Terence Davis hosts an acoustic showcase of singers and songwriter with an ocean view at The Sunset Restaurant in Malibu. 

6 PM at The Sunset Restaurant located at 6800 Westward Beach Road, near Point Dume State Beach in Malibu.

J.A.M Sessions at Old Town Newhall Arts District–Bluegrass Jam  The Bluegrass Association of Southern California invites musicians of all skill levels to a good old-fashioned bluegrass jam. Bring your guitar, banjo or fiddle and come play, sing. This is one in a series of eight J.A.M. sessions taking place in Old Town Newhall’s Arts District. FRIDAY, AUG. 3

“Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight,” syndicated broadcast radio show, will air at midnight on 1580 AM, with fresh new music and artist interviews.  Melanie Krahmer, the singer and drummer from the musical duo, Sirsy, will be Carolyn’s special guest.

SATURDAY, AUG. 4 

Drum Downtown: A Sampling of Afro Beats–Start your Saturday morning with a unique group drumming experience on the Music Center Plaza which is perfect for percussionists of all skill levels.  No experience necessary for this free event–all ages welcome. 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM at the Music Center Plaza, 135 N. Grand Ave., Los Angeles.

Eileen Carey, the tremendous country pop singer and songwriter, and her band will be live at the Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach.  Eileen is also working on a new CD.

5;30 to 9:30 PM is when Eileen Carey will be appearing at The Sawdust Art Festival at 935 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach.  The festival itself will be open from 10 AM to 10 PM.
