This week on the syndicated broadcast radio show, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight,” the amazing Phil Proctor, member of The Firesign Theater who has appeared in many Pixar movies and as Howie on Rugrats, is Carolyn’s in-studio guest on a show devoted to the “Other Worldly” and supernatural. Phil reads a new original mystery story, “Peter Bergman and the Mayan Calendar of Doom.”
Phil’s story is an homage to fellow Firesign Theater member, Peter Bergman, who passed away in March of this year. Phil and Peter toured together extensively as “Proctor and Bergman, half the wits of The Firesign Theater,” and Phil share stories from on the road, and messages from Peter from the other side. In addition to honoring Peter with the Mayan Calendar piece, Phil is also working the editing and production of a tribute performance and remembrance of Peter, based on the 2 tribute events held earlier this year. A portion of the proceeds from the upcoming Bergman tribute project will go to the Lily Bergman College Fund, to help finance the college education of Peter’s daughter.
This week’s installment of “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight” also features music that celebrates things beyond this earth, including the supernatural, mystical, and intergalactic. You’ll hear the music of Paul Mark and the Van Dorens, The Eagles, Donovan, The Clovers, Steppenwolf, Nichelle Nichols (who played Lt. Uhura on “Star Trek,”) Alvin and the Chipmonks, The Dream, Dick Hyman on Moog, and Olivia Newton John.
