In just a couple of hours, Makana, the amazing singer, songwriter and a master of the Hawaiian slack key guitar, will appear on the syndicated broadcast radio show, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight.”
You may have heard Makana’s music in the Oscar-winning movie, “The Descendants,” as well as on the soundtrack album. On tonight’s show, he explains what the slack key guitar method is, its role in Hawaiian culture and plays sparkling examples of this dying American art form.
Makana also embraces other musical styles, including rock and blues. He wrote an anthem for the occupy movement called “We Are the Many.” When he performed at the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) World Leaders Dinner, Makana sang “We Are the Many” as a bold protest that was covered by many top news outlets, including CNN, BBC News, The Washington Post and The Huffington Post.
