Featuring Brian Lopez, Hear the Complete Episode of “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight” Online

This week, the syndicated broadcast radio show, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight” featured a segment with special guest, songwriter, singer, guitarist Brian Lopez.

Although Brian’s Tucson roots are evident on his new release, “Ultra,” the music reflects the broad range of musical styles that Brian has been pursuing in the past few years.  He’s played with his own rock band  Mostly Bears, toured Europe as the guitarist and back up vocalist for French chanteuse Marianne Dissard, played with a mambo band, and toured with Howe Gelb and his band Giant Sand.

The tracks on Brian’s first full-length CD, “Ultra,” make use of poly-ethnic musical genres in way that somehow turns out to be everything we hope for from a pop song.  On the show, you’ll hear “Montjuic,” and “Under Watchful Eyes.” both of which use a blend of unusual instrumentation.  Brian Lopez is proud that the entire album was created by musicians in the studio, plus a few found sounds for atmospherics.  No synth or midi.

Also on this week’s edition of “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight,” you’ll hear music from Maroon 5Lisa Haley & the Zydecats, Dan KiblerWenesday (with a tune written by Dick Wagner),  Alisha Zalkin, Amilia K. SpicerSuzanne & the Blues Church, and Mandy Marie and the Cool Hand Lukes, among others.

Midnight Tonight–New Music & Interview with Brian Lopez

Tonight, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight” will host an interview with special guest Brian Lopez.  This syndicated broadcast radio show, which airs in Los Angeles at midnight on 1580 AM, will open with tracks from Brian’s first full-length album, “Ultra.”

To say that Tucson’s Brian Lopez is a well rounded musician is an understatement.  He earned a degree in music composition on a classical guitar scholarship.  Within the last couple of years, he’s played with his own rock band, toured Europe as the guitarist and back up vocalist for French chanteuse Marianne Dissard, played with a mambo band, and toured with Howe Gelb and his band Giant Sand.

Brain continues his exploration into a wide variety of musical styles on his new CD, “Ultra.”  You’ll hear a well-crafted blend of musical cultures and techniques.  However, as he is quick to point out, there are no “electronic tricks,” like synthesizers or midi, used in this music.  Even the atmospherics are recordings of natural sounds or created with musical instruments.

To hear Brian Lopez’s music and interview, tune your radio to 1580 AM tonight at midnight in Los Angeles, for “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight.”
