Marina V. and her New Single “Stand” on Broadcast Radio in LA and Baltimore

This Saturday on “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight,” singer, songwriter Marina V will be Carolyn Fox’s special guest, discussing her brand new single, “Stand.”

This award-winning artist has released “Stand” as a preview of her upcoming CD project, “Inner Superhero.”  Got to love the cover art, with Marina, in a black mask and her trademark long red hair, perched over a brooding city that at any moment may need a superhuman rescue.

Moscow-born Marina now lives in Los Angeles and has become a real California girl. To prove it, she’s been appearing up and down the state with her successful California Tour.

Saturday night, June 23, tune your radio to 1580 AM in Los Angeles at 1 AM, and to 810 AM, WYRE in Annapolis/Baltimore, MD at 6 PM to hear Marina V on “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight.”

What’s your favorite tune for the 4th of July?

With the 4th of July just around the corner, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight” is preparing for it’s 4th of July Holiday Special.  With the great response we had to our Summer Beach Party special, we thought we’d ask our fans to again offer their suggestions for music to be played on the air.

The tunes don’t have to be patriotic, but, of course, when celebrating the country’s birthday, flag-waving is certainly appropriate.  You could request any tunes that you most enjoy hearing at a barbecue, picnic, the beach, or as accompaniment to fireworks.

To celebrate this uniquely American holiday, on this special show you can expect to hear all kinds of American music, from Rock, Pop, Folk, Zydeco, Blues, Jazz, and Country to all genres and cross-overs in between.

Special Guest Susan Surftone on “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight” Tomorrow Night

Just in time for summer, guitarist and songwriter Susan Surftone will be Carolyn Fox’s special guest, discussing her latest CD, “Shore.”

With a sound reminiscent of The Beach Boys and Jan and Dean, this Gidget with a guitar has a retro yet modern sound that is perfect for summer fun, whether you’re partying at the beach, poolside or in the city.

Susan explains why she’s now also playing bass, and how she added the theremin to the instrumental mix on her new music video, “Rock Candy.” She also discusses how she left a career in espionage with the FBI to pursue her music full time.

What’s Your Favorite Song for Summer?

Summer is here!  The weather’s hot, the days are long, and the kids are out of school.  So syndicated broadcast radio show “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight” is celebrating with a Summer Beach Party Special.

We’d like you to celebrate summer with us.  Please send us your favorite songs for the summer.  The tune might be about surfing, sun and fun, or just be a song that has great summertime memories for you.  Whether it’s something from the Beach Boys, Katy Perry, Alice Cooper, the Gershwin Brothers or whoever does your favorite tune for hot fun in the summertime, let us know.

We’ll play a selection of fan favorites on the show.  Host Carolyn Fox will include a dedication to the one you’d most like to invite to a summer beach party.

Lisa Haley of Lisa Haley & the Zydekats is a real-life Cajun singer, songwriter and fiddler who knows how to make zydeco and Americana music accessible to audiences of all ages.  To celebrate the release of her new CD, “Joy Ride,” she came into the studio for an interview with Carolyn Fox, host of the syndicated broadcast radio show, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight.”

Jazz Singer Charmaine Clamor live at Anthology in San Diego Sunday, June 10

Filipino-American recording artist and cultural trailblazer Charmaine Clamor will appear live at Anthology this Sunday evening, June 10 in San Diego.  Having recently returned from a visit to Paris and South Africa, it’s exciting that she’s back performing in Southern California.

Charmaine’s voice has been described as an “amalgam of Nancy Wilson and Lena Horne, a sumptuously elegant blend of silk and satin, trimmed with gutsy self-possession.”  On  her latest CD, “Something Good,” she uses her lush voice to deliver a songs with emotion, and often a naughty delivery.  A perfect example is her steamy rendition of Geoffrey Leigh Tozer’s risqué tune “Sweet Spot,” which is getting well deserved praise and radio airplay.

Charmaine has been a special guest on the syndicated broadcast radio show, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight” and joined Carolyn for an After Hours interview in which she discussed receiving an invitation to perform at a private function at the Presidential Palace in the Philippines and singing a duet with President Aquino.

Lisa Haley, of Lisa Haley & the Zydekats, came into the studio to be Carolyn Fox’s special guest on this week’s installment of the syndicated broadcast radio show “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight,” discussing her newly-released CD, “Joy Ride.”

Marina V Kicks Off her “California Tour” Tomorrow Night at Hollywood and Vine

Russian born singer songwriter Marina V, is now a confirmed California girl.  And to prove it, tomorrow night she’s launching her California Tour with a live performance at the W Hotel in Hollywood, located at 6250 Hollywood Blvd. at Vine St.

Marina will be showcasing new music at this concert.  This free show is suitable for people of all ages, and Popchips snacks will be served.

The show starts at 8 PM sharp, tomorrow June 5.

Standing Room Only at Jim Meskimen’s “Jimpressions” Show

Last night, I was lucky enough to see impressionist and comedian Jim Meskimen live at The Acting Center in his show, “Jimpressions.”

Billed as “The Man with an Infinite Number of Voices,” Jim may be best known for doing the voice of George W. Bush and other politicians on the viral JibJab videos.  He can do just about any star you can name (Okay, mostly men, but Butterfly McQueen and a few other fems found their way into the show).  Jim seems to have a special talent for finding humor in blending unexpected elements, like singing selections from the Beatle’s White Album as Frank Sinatra.

Not only are Jim’s voices dead on, but he’s a hilarious comedian.  His observations about some of the personalities he mimics are as funny as they are true.

Playing to a sold-out crowd, Jim had the group in stitches for over an hour with “Jimpressions.”  Can’t think of a time when I’ve had more fun at a comedy show.
