Tonight: Malibu Unplugged Artists, Carrie Jo and Danielle Livingston on Broadcast Radio

Tonight at midnight on 1580 AM, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight” will shine on artists appearing at the weekly Malibu Unplugged showcase.  Every Thursday night, Terence Davis presents a showcase of up-and-coming artists at The Sunset Restaurant in Malibu. Carolyn’s special guests tonight will be Carrie Jo and Danielle Livingston, two of the artists who will be featured in the show next Thursday, July 26.

Carrie Jo got a kick-start to her singing career when she did well at the American Idol competition.  Since then, her singing and songwriting have been heard in several new Hollywood projects, including “Hoodwinked 2” and the game “The Sims,” on which she sang in “Simish.”

Danielle Livingston has a rich soulful voice capable of expressing great emotion.  Her songs, including “Caged Bird,” which will be featured on the radio tonight, are emotionally honest with a universal appeal.  She’s currently recording her debut CD.

Both of these terrific performers will be signing live at Malibu Unplugged, this coming Thursday, July 26 at The Sunset Restaurant on Malibu Beach, located at 6800 Westward Beach Road, near Point Dume State Beach.  The show starts around 6 pm, and you can enjoy an ocean view and happy hour while listening to some of the best up-and-coming talent in town.

Carolyn Fox is preparing to host an episode of her syndicated broadcast radio show, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight,” that features on Good Songs about Bad Behavior.

This Vice Special will play tunes about everything from merely bad habits, like kd lang’s “Black Coffee,” or sloth like “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars, indecent proposals like Jimmy Buffet’s “Why Don’t we Get Drunk and Screw,” party fouls like “Stoned, Drunk and Naked,” gambling like The Rolling Stones’ “Tumbling Dice,” betrayal, like Rhianna’s “Take a Bow,” to songs of murder, like the Dixie Chick’s “Goodbye Earl,” The Beatles’ “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” and Vampire Weekend’s “Jonathan Low.”

LA Radio Show now Online, featuring Deborah Wedekind and her sisters Missi Pyle and Meredith Pyle

In case you missed the show, click on the last line of this post to hear the entire broadcast of “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight.”  Carolyn’s special in-studio guests this week are The Pyle Sisters, Deborah Wedekind nee Pyle, and Missi Pyle and Meredith Pyle, three remarkably talented young women.

You’ll hear tunes from singer songwriter Deborah Wedekind’s newly released CD, “Clear Skies Ahead,” including a powerful track titled “Psalm on Danny Boy.”  Plus Deborah graciously sang a brand new, unreleased tune in the studio.  This song, “The Plans I Have for You is a pop tune with lyrics that could sung to any loved one, whether a mother to a child or an adoring husband to his wife.

Also in the studio was actress, singer Missi Pyle, who may be best known for her role in “The Artist,” which took the Oscar for Best Picture.  Missi is part of a desert rock duo called Smith an Pyle, and you’ll her some of her music as well.

In addition, you’ll meet Meredith Pyle, the youngest sister, who has just earned her Masters in Musical Theater and shot her first TV pilot.  When the three Pyle Sisters broke into  3-part harmony for a live, in-studio version of “Mr. Sandman,” Meredith set the pitch that got thing rolling.

Celebrating Bastille Day in Los Angeles

July 14th is Bastille Day, a national holiday in France, celebrated there much like the 4th of July in the US.

If you are in Los Angeles looking for a way to celebrate, you might enjoy Bastille Day L.A. Festival on Sunday, July 15 (technically the day after Bastille Day) from noon to 8 pm at the Kenneth Hahn State Recreational Area, located at 4100 South La Cienega Blvd.  There will be L.A. Street performers, Parisian Waiters Race, a Provencal Petanque Tournament and French food.  The cost is $5; Children ages 12 and younger: Free.  For parking costs and shuttles, visit Bastille Day L.A. Festival.

On July 14th, Bastille Day itself, there are some other events around town that, although not necessarily related to the French holiday, could be a great way to celebrate the day:

Woody Guthrie Centennial Event in Echo Park–Celebrating the 100th birthday of American folk music legend Woody Guthrie, this event begins at 10 AM with a casual brunch where musician and Guthrie historian Darryl Holter will be giving a presentation on Woody’s early years in Los Angeles.  He’ll talk about the radio show, The Woody and Lefty Lou Show, which was one of the most popular shows at the time, especially for listeners who had emigrated from the Dust Bowl regions to LA.  At 1 PM Holter will perform a solo set of Guthrie songs, mostly songs that have never been heard since the radio show ended in 1939.  History Brunch: 10:00 AM to 12 PM

Summer Fun at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site–Bring a picnic lunch and explore the adobe through a tour and crafts for children. A jazz concert starts after dinner. The adobe will be open during that time as well for tours. Located at the Reyes Adobe, 5464 Reyes Adobe Rd., Agoura Hills.  Activities for kids: 1:30-3 pm; Jazz Concert: 5:30-7 pm.

Movies on the Green in Warner Park–Outdoor, family-friendly movies have become a tradition at Warner Park. Bring a blanket, chairs and a picnic!  Located in the park at the corner of Topanga Canyon Blvd. and Califa in Woodland Hills.   The movie starts a half hour after sunset.  Although the movie is free, parking at nearby lots may cost $8.

Midnight Tonight New Music Premiers on “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight”

Tonight at Midnight in Los Angeles on the broadcast radio show, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight,” you’ll hear a preview of new music from Deborah Wedekind, which hasn’t been produced yet.

Her new song “The Plans I Have for You is a pop song that could be a message to anyone you love, whether a mother to a child or an adoring husband to his wife.  It’s a special tune that Deborah sang live in the studio during her interview with Carolyn Fox.

You’ll also hear a variety of tracks from Deborah Wedekind’s new CD, “Clear Skies Ahead.”  These pop tunes range from original tunes to standards and a unique version of “Danny Boy”

This week our special in-studio guests are The Pyle Sisters, Deborah Wedekind nee Pyle, and Missi and Meredith Pyle, three remarkably talented sisters.

This Week’s In-Studio Guests–the 3 Pyle Sisters, Missi, Deborah (Wedekind) and Meredith

Carolyn Fox, host of “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight,” welcomes three beautiful and talented sisters into the studio this week: Deborah Wedekind, Missi Pyle and Meredith Pyle.

Singer songwriter Deborah Wedekind has just released her debut CD, “Clear Skies Ahead.”  In addition to her original tunes, this album features standards with a fresh twist.   Her “Psalm on Danny Boy” is a remarkable blend of the traditional Irish tune with new lyrics.

Actress and singer Missi Pyle may be best known for her role in “The Artist,” which won the Oscar for Best Picture, and you may also have seen her in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Dodgeball.”  Missi is a singer and part of a musical group called, Smith & Pyle.   On this week’s show, we’ll play music from her CD, “It’s Okay to be Happy.”

Sister Meredith Pyle, also a talented singer and actress, is new to Los Angeles and has already landed her first role in a TV Pilot.

Actors Jim and Tarma Meskimen Tell a Funny Story of Inspired Dubbing

In their recent in-studio appearance on the broadcast radio show “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight,” two talented actors, Jim Meskimen, who is perhaps best known as a comedian and celebrity impressionist, and his wife Tarma Meskimen, who is one of the founders of The Acting Center of Los Angeles, tell a funny story about why they dubbed the dialogue into Spanish on the short film “Marry Me.”

Now Online–Show Biz Themed Radio Broadcast featuring Hollywood Acting Secrets

This week on “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight,” the emphasis was on “Hollywood.”

Carolyn Fox interviews a couple of special guests in the studio about what it takes to be a successful actor in Hollywood.  Tamra Meskimen, who’s work you may have seen on “One Life to Live” or “Arliss, is one of the founders of The Acting Center of Los Angeles.  She is joined in the studio by her her husband, the impressionist and comedian Jim Meskimen, who is known for the viral JibJab videos and his work in movies and TV. Tamra and Jim divulge the importance of improv in helping actors win auditions and book jobs.  With a special method that builds the actor’s confidence and skills, they explain what it takes to create and maintain a successful career.
