This week, Lisa Loeb is our very special guest on a holiday edition of the syndicated broadcast radio show, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight.”  A Grammy nominee, Lisa came by the studio to discuss her new release, an album called “No Fairy Tale.”

In addition to hearing tracks from this new CD, you’ll also hear Lisa discuss what it was like collaborating with Chad Gilbert, of New Found Glory, as co-producers.  Since they have different musical styles and sensibilities, the result is a fresh, pop punky sound on “No Fairy Tale.”

Lisa Loeb on Los Angeles Radio Tomorrow at Midnight

Tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 21, Grammy nominee, Lisa Loeb will be our in-studio guest on the syndicated broadcast radio show, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight.”  With her monster hit, “Stay (I Missed You,)” Lisa is still the only artist to have a number one Billboard pop single while not signed to a recording contract.

You’ll hear Lisa discussing the music on her new album, “No Fairy Tale.” Lisa will share what it was like working with her co-producer, Chad Gilbert, guitarist and founding member of punk rock group New Found Glory.   We’ll play some of the tracks from the new release, “No Fairy Tale,” and you can hear this cool, contemporary sound with an edge.  Lisa also offers several tracks as intimate, acoustic performances that make you feel like you’re in the same room.

Podcast of the Broadcast featuring Kenny Davies and the “Christmas Rap”

Screen shot 2012-12-05 at 5.41.40 PMAt the holidays, everyone likes to find a brand new present under the tree.  This year, Kenny Davies gift of the season is a new track called “Christmas Rap.”  This week on the syndicated broadcast radio show, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight,” Kenny dropped by the studio to chat about his new release and his musical journey.

Originally from West Plains, Missouri, Kenny had a musical upbringing.  His mother was the singer in a local band, and he was exposed to a wide range of genres and musical styles from an early age.

You’ll also hear the voice of Kenny’s childhood sweetheart, Laura Byrnes, singing the chorus on the “Christmas Rap.”  Laura, who has experience as a voice over talent, sang in a distinctive elf voice on the song, without the aid of any electronic filtering.  Kenny was reunited with when, after many years, he found her Facebook, and they rekindled their romance.

Kenny Davies on Los Angeles Radio Tonight

Kenny Davies, Laura Byrnes and Carolyn Fox in the studioSinger songwriter Kenny Davies brings holiday cheer when he appears tonight on the syndicated broadcast radio show, “Carolyn Fox’s Hollywood Spotlight.”  With the new release of his yule time track, “Christmas Rap,” he offers a fresh song for the 2012 holidays.

Featured on the “Christmas Rap” track you’ll hear the voice of an elf singing the chorus.  That’s the voice of Laura Byrnes, who is Kenny’s childhood sweetheart.  Kenny was able to locate Laura after many years by using Facebook.  Turns out, they were both living in Los Angeles, facilitating a happy reunion and rekindling a beautiful romance.  If you’d like to see them performing together, check out this video:

Hear In-Studio Radio Appearance by Makana, Master of the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar

You heard Makana’s music in the Oscar-winning movie starring George Clooney, “The Descendants,” as well as on the soundtrack album.  In his interview with Carolyn, Makana explains the traditional Hawaiian style of slack key guitar, shares its history and plays sparkling examples of this dying art form.

Although Makana is steeped in the music of Hawaii, he also embraces other musical styles, including rock and blues.  Realizing that there was no anthem for the occupy movement, Makana wrote “We Are the Many.”  When he performed at the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) World Leaders Dinner, Makana sang “We Are the Many” as a protest.
